A Message from Floyd, Jr.

Floyd E. Dabney, Sr.At the F.E. Dabney Funeral Home, we look at what we do as a service to the community in time of need. Because of this, we have chosen to remain a small, intimate family-owned business so that we can serve our clients one-on-one with the highest level of personal care. This also allows us to offer our professional services at a reasonable cost.

As a child, I grew up in a funeral home. While the prep work was conducted in a separate building, the viewing room was in the lower section of the main house, right next to my father's office!! I can remember us always having to prepare for the visit from the family.
I was intrigued by the attention to detail my father took when caring for the remains, and our regular family routine was set aside so that we could make sure everything was just right for a family's visit.

Dad's compassion towards the family of the deceased was always evident, and he expected us to uphold the same respect. Dad always said, "The inevitability of death is a serious aspect of life. When death occurs it is important to the community and the lives of the loved ones left behind that they have someone to turn to for help in starting the transition of life without a person they have loved and cared for all their life." The preparation of the remains, along with the funeral, is the beginning of this process. My mother, Uncle Mick (dad's brother), and I were instilled with this philosophy.

Claudius "Mick" DabneyI always thought that when the time came for me to manage the business that Uncle Mick or Dad (or both) would be here to assist me. But unfortunately that was not the case. After running the business together for 50 years, Uncle Mick passed in November of 2005, and Dad in January of 2006.

I miss my father and my uncle, but they prepared me well. They are always in my heart, mind and soul. In being a Funeral Director, I emulate their style and attention to detail. They showed me the importance of compassion, caring, honesty and kindness. And they taught me to focus on professionalism and quality.

From personal experience, my mother and I know what it is to lose a loved one, and we are that much more committed to helping others during such a difficult time. Dad and Uncle Mick always said it is better to give than receive.

So my mother and I are proud to operate the F. E. Dabney Funeral Home. We have experienced associates who assist us. We have a chapel that holds up to 100 Floyde E. Dabney Jr. & Henrietta Dabneypeople, and a fully equipped preparation room.

It is important to us that everything is perfect, for we believe we are here to serve people in their time of need, and offer them professional services without causing them financial hardship. We can help give a loved one and their family a meaningful, respectable and encouraging tribute that will give a family comfort, knowing their loved one is at peace and has moved on from victory to reward with the Lord.

It's because we live and have lived in this business all of our lives. This is the type of funeral home we are.
